Salvia nemorosa
Salvia

WaterLow once established — salvia is drought-tolerant and hates wet feet.
LightFull sun. The more sun, the denser the flower spikes.
CareShear back spent spikes for a strong second flush. Cut to the base in late fall.
If the coneflowers are the bees’ diner, the salvia is the bar — those violet spikes are rarely without a visitor. After three or four years it’s settled into a dense, reliable stand that opens in early summer, and if I shear it back hard after the first flush it rewards me with a second one. Tough, drought-proof, and a pollinator magnet right next to the hives.
