Monstera deliciosa ‘Bulbasaur’

Monstera Bulbasaur

September 18, 2026
LightProvide bright indirect light to support the mottled variegation. Avoid strong direct sun, which can scorch the lighter areas.
WaterWater after the top 1–1.5 inches of the mix feels dry, then let all excess water escape. Never keep the root zone constantly wet.
HumidityMaintain approximately 60% humidity or higher with airflow for the best foliage quality.
PropagationStem cutting with at least one healthy node. Place the cutting in water, sphagnum moss, perlite, or LECA.
SoilUse a chunky mix containing coarse bark, perlite or pumice, and a moisture-holding component such as coco coir.
TemperatureKeep it in stable household warmth, ideally about 65–85°F, away from cold drafts and abrupt changes.
FertilizerFeed monthly during active growth with a balanced fertilizer diluted below the label strength. Pause or reduce feeding when growth slows.
DifficultyAdvanced
Pet safetyToxic if chewed. Insoluble calcium oxalate crystals can irritate the mouth and digestive tract of pets and people.
Care tipsUse a sturdy support as the plant matures. The speckled, mosaic-like variegation needs good light, while the roots need air and drainage to avoid rot.

This is general guidance. Adjust watering and care for your home's light, temperature, humidity, potting mix, container, and season.

General care

Monstera Bulbasaur follows the basic needs of other variegated Monsteras: strong filtered light, warmth, humidity, and an airy root zone. Its pale mottling can burn in direct sun, while low light can weaken growth.

Water and soil

Let the surface layer dry before watering thoroughly. A coarse blend of bark, mineral aeration material, and a modest moisture-retentive component keeps the roots hydrated without trapping too much water.

Supporting mature growth

Give it a pole or plank to climb as it develops. Feed gently during active growth, remove only damaged foliage, and inspect regularly for pests or early signs of root stress.
