Monstera deliciosa ‘Albo Variegata’

Monstera Albo

September 14, 2026
LightPlace it in very bright indirect light. A little filtered or gentle morning sun is suitable, but strong direct sun can burn the white tissue.
WaterWater thoroughly after the upper 2 inches of the mix dry, then empty any collected runoff. Reduce frequency when growth slows.
HumidityAim for at least 50% humidity. Drier air can contribute to brown tips and crisp white sections.
PropagationStem cutting with at least one healthy node. Place the cutting in water, sphagnum moss, perlite, or LECA.
SoilUse a chunky, well-aerated aroid mix with bark, perlite or pumice, and coco coir or another lightly moisture-retentive ingredient.
TemperatureKeep it warm, ideally above 65°F, and protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F.
FertilizerApply a balanced liquid fertilizer at reduced strength about every 4–6 weeks during active growth. Flush the mix periodically to limit salt buildup.
DifficultyAdvanced
Pet safetyToxic if chewed. Insoluble calcium oxalate crystals can irritate the mouth and digestive tract of pets and people.
Care tipsGive the vine a sturdy climbing support. Albo variegation is unstable, so prioritize healthy green-and-white growth rather than trying to produce all-white leaves, which cannot support themselves.

This is general guidance. Adjust watering and care for your home's light, temperature, humidity, potting mix, container, and season.

General care

Monstera Albo grows best with abundant filtered light, warm temperatures, and an open potting mix that lets oxygen reach the roots. Water deeply only after the upper portion of the mix has dried, and never leave the pot standing in runoff.

Protecting the variegation

The white pattern is genetically unstable and may change from leaf to leaf. Strong light supports growth, but intense direct sun can scorch pale tissue. Keep enough green growth on the plant to supply energy, and expect highly white leaves to grow more slowly and brown sooner.

Growth and support

Provide a moss pole or other firm support so the plant can climb and size up. Feed lightly during active growth, maintain moderate humidity, and avoid unnecessary repotting or abrupt environmental changes.
